You’ve decided to enclose your porch or patio. Now comes the big question: EZE-Breeze vinyl panels or glass windows? Both let in natural light and keep bugs out, but they’re built for different jobs. One is made for breezy spring evenings and long fall afternoons. The other is made for sipping coffee in January while the snow piles up outside.

Screenbuilders has been designing and building custom patio rooms since 1993, and we help homeowners across the greater Des Moines area choose between both options. Here’s a straightforward breakdown to help you choose the right fit for how you actually want to use your space.

What Are EZE-Breeze Sliding Panels?

EZE-Breeze sliding panels are lightweight, custom-made vinyl window panels that slide open and closed within a track system. They’re made from durable 10-mil vinyl and come in two main styles:

EZE-Breeze panels are the featured product in our 3 season rooms, and they’re also a popular upgrade for existing screened in porches and patio enclosures. Each panel is custom manufactured to fit your exact opening, with sizes ranging from 12 to 54 inches wide and 24 to 108 inches tall.

What About Glass Windows?

Glass windows in a sunroom come in two main forms, depending on the type of room you’re building:

Our all-season rooms use durable, low-maintenance vinyl-framed windows with high-performance glass options, giving the room the feel of a true home addition rather than an enclosed porch.

EZE-Breeze vs Glass: Head-to-Head Comparison

Ventilation and Fresh Air

Winner: EZE-Breeze. This is where vinyl panels really shine. Vertical four-track panels can open up to 75% of the window area, so your room feels close to a screened porch on a warm day. Close them up when the wind picks up or a storm rolls through. Most glass windows open less of the wall, so you’ll get less airflow overall.

Year-Round Comfort

Winner: Glass (double-pane). If you want to use the room in December and February, insulated glass is the way to go. Vinyl panels and single-pane glass are built for three-season use, roughly early spring through late fall. In a 3 season room, heat should be added only on an as-needed basis, using something like a space heater or vented fireplace. A 4 season room with double-pane glass and insulated walls is designed to be heated and cooled like the rest of your home.

Protection From the Elements

Tie. Both options keep out rain, wind, pollen, debris, and insects. EZE-Breeze panels also block 99% of harmful UV rays, which helps protect your outdoor furniture and cushions from fading. Glass offers a more solid barrier against cold and noise, especially when it’s insulated.

Cost

Winner: EZE-Breeze. A 3 season room with vinyl panels generally costs less to build than an all-season room with insulated glass. It doesn’t need full insulation, an HVAC system, or the same level of construction a year-round room requires. If your goal is more usable outdoor living space without the cost of a full room addition, EZE-Breeze is hard to beat.

Looks and Clarity

Winner: Glass. Glass gives you a crisp, traditional window look that blends in with the rest of the house. EZE-Breeze panels still offer clear views, and you can choose from clear, smoke gray, bronze, or dark gray tints plus a range of frame colors to match your home’s style.

Maintenance

Both are easy, but different. EZE-Breeze vinyl cleans up with a soft cloth and water with a few drops of mild soap, like Woolite, Murphy’s Oil Soap, or dish soap. A light spray of PGT Vinyl Cleaner and Preservative on both sides keeps the vinyl looking its best (just go easy, since too much can leave streaks). Glass cleans up with standard window cleaner, just like the windows in your house.

Weight and Flexibility

Winner: EZE-Breeze. Vinyl panels are lightweight and can often be fitted into existing openings without extensive reframing. That makes them a great way to upgrade an existing porch, a screen room, or a custom enclosed porch without starting from scratch.

Which Should You Choose?

It really comes down to one question: when do you want to use the room?

Still torn? Many homeowners start by thinking about how they’ll use the room. A spot for summer dinners and fall football games is a perfect fit for a 3 season room with EZE-Breeze panels. A home office, family room, or winter reading nook points toward a 4 season room with insulated glass. Browse our full lineup of sunrooms to see what’s possible.
